Villa - Swans on the Internet
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma--
Epworth Villa is expecting new arrivals on or about April
16, 1998. Only these unique residents will be living outside instead of
inside - specifically on the lake.
For the past three years, Epworth Villa's front alcove
by the lake has been a nesting place for swans.
The birthing began in 1996 when we had four new cygnet's
born. In 1997, we increased our swan population by two. This year, 1998,
the swan "mother" is sitting on six eggs. Some interesting facts about
swan birthing is that the swans take turns sitting on the nest. "Shared
responsibility." Keeping up with the times, that's what it's all
about. When the new swans are hatched, the father swans kicks all
the other babies out of the nest (or water). A little behind the
times on that score.
This year our network coordinator, Tony Gaeddert, set
up a website so that Internet surfers who like swans could watch also.
So far, since we set up the site, we have had 305 hits. You can see the
birthing of the swans at www.ionet.net/~epworth.
